Welcome Back!

The Benton Harbor-St. Joseph & Niles-Buchanan YMCAs will reopen on Wednesday, September 9 with precautions and modifications.

We've missed you! It’s been hard to be away from the people we care about but thank you for persevering and doing your part to stay safe. We’ve been carefully planning to reopen our facilities and reactivate key programs in the safest manner possible so you can access the services and support you miss and need the most. The way we’ll interact with each other will be different, but at the Y, you’ll always be able to connect with people, improve your health and wellness, nurture your children’s potential, and help strengthen our community.

We will continue to reintroduce programs and services after reopening allowing us to slowly return to a normal routine. These programs and services will begin once physical distancing requirements have been relaxed and we feel comfortable with our team, members, and guests’ health and safety pertaining to that program or service. Please note, the following lists are subject to change at any time. The following information is for the Benton Harbor-St. Joseph & Niles-Buchanan YMCAs only.

Please read over the below guidelines so you understand how we are keeping you safe — and what we expect of you. Below you will find general guidelines as well as guidelines for specific program areas. Check back as we will update this page as information changes.

If you placed your membership on hold during our mandated closure, please scroll to the bottom of the page to learn more.

Benton Harbor-St. Joseph Pool

During the beginning of our mandated closure, we drained, power washed, and acid-washed the pool at the Benton Harbor-St. Joseph YMCA. When we were refilling the pool, a main pipe burst and flooded the basement of the Y damaging the pool mechanics. We are currently in the final stretch of working with contractors and the state department to replace the damaged equipment and get the pool in working order.

While we hoped to have the pool reopened by the first week of October, our mechanical contractors encountered additional issues and unfortunately, our reopening has been further delayed. When everything is back up and running, the pool will have a new filtration system, pumps, motors, and boilers. We estimate reopening to still happen during the month of October.

Thank you for your patience as we work to ensure that everything is done correctly so we can provide you with the best experience possible!

Upon reopening, we will have lap swim, aqua aerobics, private & semi-private swim lessons, and swim team utilizing the pool.
