The community is invited to a free event Saturday, Oct. 1, at B&B Grocery Outlet, 337 E. St Joseph St., Watervliet, to celebrate the business’ ninth anniversary.

In partnership with Piggott’s Farm Market & Bakery, and the YMCA of Greater Michiana, the first 100 attendees will receive a bag of fresh, seasonal, and locally grown produce.

The event is from noon-3 p.m. and will include activities for the whole family. Children can play in a bounce house, laser tag, and more. The YMCA will offer yoga sessions throughout the event, and there will be store-wide sales.

B&B Grocery Outlet delivers discount grocery items and fresh produce year-round. They are known for offering low prices on many name-brand items.

“As the only grocery store in the area, we wanted to be able to help the community make smarter food choices,” Ben and Beth Wagner, store owners, said.

Through the Healthy Corner Store initiative, the YMCA, in partnership with Be Healthy Berrien, helped the Wagners attain proper equipment to maximize produce availability and quality.

B&B Grocery Outlet transformed into a Healthy Corner Store in 2019, and has been a staple for kitchen essentials with the help of many community partners.

“Not only will you find fresh produce to make any meal well rounded, you will find grocery items that you would not normally see in traditional grocery stores. This encourages creativity in the kitchen and a sense of discovery when shopping,” the Wagners said.

Prior to the event, a community worship service is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the store.
