The Niles-Buchanan YMCA has received a $500,000 matching challenge grant from two local foundations. The grant will support the Y to close the $1M gap remaining to achieve its $3M goal for its upcoming expansion.

“This challenge will incentivize the community—from business leaders and other foundations to Y members and residents—to support the Y’s Changing Lives & Improving Health capital campaign,” said Jill Haboush, VP of Fund Development & Marketing. “We are honored and excited to receive this challenge and look forward to continuing our fundraising efforts.”

The goal of the Y’s Changing Lives & Improving Health capital campaign is to do just as its title states—to change the lives and improve the health of our community.

The additional 13,700 square foot expansion including a youth center, a teen center, a second gymnasium and fitness room will provide affordable access to places for children and young people to find a positive, structured environment with role models, physical activity, and nutrition education so they have a clear path to a healthy, productive life.

The Niles-Buchanan YMCA is planning to break ground this fall on the expansion. Construction is expected to take six-eight months to complete.
